What is RSS
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a standard designed for syndicating headlines and other web content. RSS allows you to see when your favorite websites have added new content. Get the latest headlines, sales offers, featured products, and articles, as soon as they are published. This information is gathered for you, all in one place, without having to remember to visit and read each site. RSS takes the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by allowing you to subscribe to only the information you are interested in.
An RSS feed is merely an XML file that websites host on their Web server – kind of looks like HTML code. When the feed is aggregated into an RSS reader, the delivered result looks like – and can be managed - similar to email.
However, RSS represents a separate web-delivered channel that, quite unlike email, is impossible to spam. As an enabling technology, the subscriber is in total control of the messages they receive. How do I receive RSS Feeds?
To receive and read RSS feeds, it is necessary to use an RSS feed reader. RSS feed readers are now built into most email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.). Even iGoogle, My.Yahoo, and My.MSN easily allow you to personalize your homepage by integrating your favorite RSS feeds. It is practical and convenient to read your RSS feeds in a place where you frequent on a regular basis.
